2009 Year in Review
-
Music Recording - PC based Nuendo/Cubase
dedicated system with 2 UAD cards and an RME
Fireface. Just added a decent electronic drum set
this year.
- Remote Control - I have done about all of it - Cars,
Planes, Helicopters. Current focus is
Rock
Crawling
- Robots - Dabbled a little with a Hitech
RoboNova-1. I have recently put a little more effort
into it, but have come to realize it is a hobby
limited to rich college kids. It is nowhere near
ready for the general public. The lego NXTs are a
lot of fun but not really capable of any serious
robotics. Everything else is overpriced and you have
to write every bit of the software yourself. Frankly
it is an indication of what happens when there is
ample competition in the market; it remains
fragmented and dysfunctional, until someone or
something comes along and becomes a de facto
standard (yes we are describing Microsoft here, and
now that they are driven by bean counters instead of
visionaries, have no interest in robotics).
- Programming -
a career programmer,
30+ years experience including management. Alas, I
tire of things always sucking. Programming is no
better today than it was in the 60's. For every
advance, there is a corresponding regression.
